NO TICKET ZONE!

Beginning as early as 2007, many of the Newspapers here in Northern Baja have reported on a new venture by the local governments to help ease the minds of those hesitant to venture down across the border to Baja. Currently, there is a "No Ticket Zone," between the San Ysidro Port of Entry and the beginning of the Toll Roads at Playas Tijuana. This represents the road you would travel on if you cross the border and follow the signs to Rosarito.

Again, this was done to help BRING folks like you down, and alleviate concerns with problems you might normally be told occur with local law enforcement. So we ask ALL to please follow the speed limit and respect others on the roads.

IF YOU GET PULLED OVER?

So you are driving in downtown Rosarito, Tijuana, Ensenada, or other local municipalities, and you miss that Stop sign and are pulled over by a Police Officer? Guess what? You MUST be issued a PHYSICAL TICKET, the same as in the States, AND, you can MAIL IN THE PAYMENT! If you wish to attest the ticket, you must go to the local judiciary and plead your case in front of a Judge. The Judges are normal people, and if your case is 'contrived', the Judge will know and throw it out.

However, if you believe that you were pulled over without proper cause (you honestly didn't do it), simply tell the Officer that you wish to contest, and you will be taken to the court to explain. Again, Mexico does NOT want more un-true publicity, and everyone, from the people selling piggy banks at the border, to the real estate companies trying to sell Punta Brava, the Tiger Woods development, don't want unwanted or untrue issues against US Tourists.

Regarding the 'TICKETING' Policy, this is for all MINOR infractions, such as speeding, invalid license plate(s), illegal turn, etc. Expect to be treated as you would in the States for major offenses, such as driving while intoxicated, excessive speed, etc. Mexico takes a MUCH more strict stance on offenses that endanger the public, and you are guilty until proven innocent.

This is accurate to the best of our knowledge; however we encourage each and every person to visit the US Customs website for accurate information.
